Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has hailed Wayne Rooney for playing with his soul whenever he is on the pitch for Everton. The former England international made a surprise decision to join his boyhood club last summer, and he has since been a revelation, contributing 10 goals in the Premier League.

In the lead-up to the Everton game, Conte was wary over the abilities of Rooney, who has managed six goals in his last five top-flight games. He added to praise the 32-year-old for making the move to Goodison Park, where he has recently earned the right to wear the captain's armband.

Kevin Kilbane - Everton's pursuit of a new manager has gone horribly wrong

Former Everton star Kevin Kilbane feels the Toffees are messed up on and off the pitch after having delayed the recruitment of a permanent head coach. The Merseyside outfit have not employed a new manager since Ronald Koeman's sacking more than a month ago, and this has left caretaker David Unsworth with the job, although with little success.

In a debate covered on BBC Sport, Kilbane spoked about the difficulties of his former side, where he cited the confidence has seeped through the players with their recent performances, he said: "Their performance in their 4-1 defeat by Southampton on Sunday was dreadful and they have become the team that everyone wants to play against, because they will gift you chances and goals. Their pursuit of a new manager has also gone horribly wrong.

It has been an incredible last couple of months in the ever-turbulent life of Wayne Rooney.

He returns back to where it all started with his beloved Everton. He scores on his league debut. He then gets arrested and charged with drink-driving and ordered to do community service. His marriage is on the rocks as a result.

Everton embark on a horror run of form but get a much-needed win at the weekend against Bournemouth. Again though, it’s Rooney who is the centre of attention getting involved in a nasty aerial clash with the Cherries Simon Francis which leaves him with a black eye and blood pouring from the wound.

Will Wayne Rooney go to another Premier League club?

Wayne Rooney has lost his place in the Manchester United starting lineup. The forward has been in decline for a while now, and it seems that he is no longer important to United. The 31-year-old, who has also operated as a midfielder, has started only nine Premier League matches for the Red Devils so far this season, scoring two goals and providing five assists in the process. During the 2015-16 campaign, Rooney scored eight goals and created 42 chances in 28 league matches for the Old Trafford outfit.

Rooney has been on the books of United since 2004 and has a contract until June 2019, but the England international has consistently been linked with moves away from Old Trafford. There have been reports of him moving to China, while his former club Everton have been linked with a summer bid. It seems that the 31-year-old’s time at United is coming to an end. Even if Rooney plays his part in guiding Jose Mourinho's side back into the Champions League, it is hard to see him remain part of the Portuguese manager’s plans for the 2017-18 campaign.
